Sustainable, considerate adventure. 🌍

Modular.

This was a particularly fun project as part of my education at Sheffield Hallam University. The goal was to design a sustainable product that forms a bond with the user, for the affordable outdoor gear and apparel company Alpkit.

Pictured here is a prototype I created: 'The Frame.' It features a lattice construction compatible with the PALS system, often also referred to as MOLLE.

This system enables users to equip their backpack differently for each adventure, minimizing the amount of gear needed while bonding with the beautiful natural laminate construction.

One of a kind.

During the time this project took place, the use of AI to aid in the design process was becoming increasingly trendy.

As a young designer, this was a trend I wanted to explore. However, I came to an interesting conclusion: what I wanted to design didn’t exist, and nothing like it was available.

Therefore, no matter what prompts I used, I could never achieve the result I desired because the AI program had no reference to draw upon.

This experience proved to me that there is no replacement for designers with sketching ability.

An ecosystem.

Due to the modular nature of 'The Frame.', it was also important to consider the surrounding ecosystem of attachments.

As a designer, it is crucial to consider all surrounding aspects of a product's design and not be satisfied until these too have been thoroughly thought through and designed.
